Dr. Ravindra Nanda Gives a Reason to Explore More by his Research


Hard work and great efforts make the way to success and Dr. Ravindra Nanda is a perfect example of this. He contributed almost 4 decades to serve the orthodontics field. The proper support of his family gives him the strength to crack the hurdles, and his immense dedication played a huge role behind his success that made his journey incredible in the orthodontics field.

As grabbing lifetime knowledge from the professionals is a great opportunity, various countries invited him to deliver lectures on different topics related to the field. Moreover, guiding the students who dreamed to be an Orthodontist is a major motive of his life.



He carries a perspective in the mind that sharing knowledge is a way to nourish a student so that they can pursue a successful career. His amazing way of delivering lectures and explaining theories allowed everyone to enhance their knowledge and this made him a role model of the students. Also, he is associated with numerous orthodontics societies, and with the help of these societies, he provides high-quality care to the orthodontic community.

Dr. Nanda got invited to attend the Surgery First Summit, on the 10th anniversary of the SF publication, and this event was held in Japan. Orthodontists from across the world were there in the event where they shared immense knowledge and great techniques under the motto “Shorter, Safer, and with Higher Certainty.” In the event, Dr. Ravindra Nanda enlightened the fellow orthodontists with his innovative ideas and views. 

Recently, research was conducted in which he presented a detailed analysis of the changing dynamics of a smile. The motive of conducting the research was to determine the age-related changes in a smile. Some of the major areas included in the research were upper lip length, maxillary incisal display, interlabial gap height, and smile index.

The Excellent Work of Ravindra Nanda as Orthodontist


In the field Orthodontics, Dr. Ravindra Nanda plays an important role and with his wonderful skills and great knowledge, he contributed almost 40 years of his life in the field.   

Career

Dr. Nanda earned his bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Orthodontics and dentistry from King George’s Medical College, Lucknow University. He went to Katholieke University, Nijmegen the Netherlands, for the further practice and there he completed his PH.D. in the year 1969.



After that, he joined the University of Connecticut where he appointed as an assistant professor, then in 1979, he promoted to the full professor. And in 1972, he also served there as the ‘Head of the Orthodontics Department’ and later he was promoted as the Chair of the Division of Orthodontics and led the Craniofacial Sciences Department that includes the Pediatric Dentistry, Maxillofacial Surgery, Advanced Education in General Dentistry, the Advanced Education in General Dentistry, the divisions of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Orthodontics, with his effective leadership skills.

Membership

Dr. Nanda contributed a lot in the Orthodontics field and is an active member of a number of orthodontics organizations, including the Connecticut State Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the Hartford Dental Society, the European Orthodontic Society, the College of Diplomats of the American Board of Orthodontists and the American Association of Orthodontics and the International Association of Dental Research.

At present, he is the Associate Editor of Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, on the editorial board of nine national and international orthodontic journals and the Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Orthodontics.

Currently, Dr. Ravindra Nanda delivered various seminars and lectures in more than 40 countries all around the world and by sharing the knowledge with the students, he helps and encourages them to become a successful orthodontist. Also, Dr. Nanda honored with the Life Time Membership by Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS).

The Admirable Journey of Dr. Ravindra Nanda

In the field of orthodontics, Dr. Ravindra Nanda is a renowned name. With having the experience of almost 4 decades, he gave a huge contribution to Orthodontics.

He contributed a big part of his life to the Connecticut University and served there for almost 40 years. In 1972, Dr. Nanda gets in touch with UConn and appointed as Assistant Professor. After that in year 1979, he got promoted to the full professor.


In 1992, he served as the ‘Head of the Orthodontics Department’ there. For his dedicated work in the field, he has gained promotion and his great leadership skills help him to lead the Craniofacial Sciences Department which included the Advanced Education in General Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, the divisions of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Advanced Education in General Dentistry, and Orthodontics.

He also holds the membership of many orthodontics societies, including the Connecticut State Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontics, the Hartford Dental Society, the European Orthodontic Society, the College of Diplomats of the American Board of Orthodontists and the International Association of Dental Research.

Dr. Ravindra Nanda – An Orthodontist with Great Knowledge


Dr. Ravindra Nanda is a highly experienced and knowledgeable Orthodontist. He has completed his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in 1964 from the King Georges Medical College in Lucknow, and also earned a degree in Dental Science. As an Orthodontist, he started his internship in the Lucknow University. In the year 1967, he went for the further practice to the Katholieke University, Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and completed his Ph.D. in 1969.

To serve as an assistant professor, Dr. Nanda moved to Loyola University, Maywood and there he taught for 2 years. In the year 1972, he went to the University of Connecticut to join the School of Dental Medicines. He assumed the position as the Head of Department of Orthodontics in 1992 and later in the year 2004, he was promoted as the Chair of the Division of Orthodontics to lead the Department of Craniofacial Sciences that includes Orthodontics, Maxillofacial and Oral surgery, Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry, and General Dentistry.



At the present stage, he serves as the associate editor of Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, Editor in Chief of progress in orthodontics, and also he is on the editorial board of nine international and national orthodontic journals. He is the authored of seven textbooks in international orthodontic organizations, Dr. Ravindra Nanda was honored with a Life Time Membership to the IOS (Indian Orthodontic Society), in New Delhi, India.

From the last 40 years, Professor Ravindra Nanda is associated with the Orthodontics field. He has delivered several seminars and lectures in more than 40 countries as a keynote speaker. He is a genius in the field of Orthodontics and is honored with numerous awards by numerous organizations. 

A number of universities from all around the world, invite him to deliver the lectures on various orthodontists topics that include Temporomandibular joint diseases & orthodontics acceleration of orthodontic treatment, contemporary orthodontics, managing complex patients with TAD’s and surgery, etc. In the 40th Annual Meeting in Sunny Orlando, Florida, Professor Ravindra Nanda was honored as “A Legend in Orthodontics” by the College Of Diplomates.

To Keep Moving Forward Only Counts – Dr. Ravindra Nanda

Dr. Ravindra Nanda hails from India and is now a resident of the United States of America. Following the footsteps of the family, he decided to pursue his career as an Orthodontist. And consequently, he started his bachelor’s in Dental Sciences, followed by the Masters from King George Medical College, Lucknow.

During his masters, he studied the tweed philosophy and jarabak ratio in Orthodontics under the guidance of his elder brother, Dr. Ram S Nanda, who was the Head of the Department in the Lucknow University. Ravindra Nanda was the house surgeon in the College of Dentistry from 1964 to 1966, and later, he was appointed as a lecturer in the same University.
Thereafter, he migrated from India to Holland to pursue his further studies in the field of Orthodontics. There, he studied the Brodie’s Philosophy of Non-Extraction treatment under the mentorship of Alan Brodie, who was a scholarship student there.
After completing his research and study in Holland, Dr. Ravi Nanda moved to Loyola University, Maywood, where he was appointed as an Assistant Professor. His urge to learn more introduced him to the Bioprogressive treatment and was teaching the students about a conglomeration of Tweed Edgewise Bioprogressive.
Since the year 1972, Dr. Nanda has been associated with the University of Connecticut (UConn). Beginning his career as the Assistant Professor to the Chair of the Division of Orthodontics at the University, he spent 35 years of his life teaching and mentoring the students, who aspire to become Orthodontists.
He is a keen researcher and with much of his research, he has authored and edited various publications. For his achievements, he has been honored and awarded by many organizations for lecturing on the theories used in Orthodontics.
Over the year, he visited 13 to 14 countries and delivered courses in various Universities, where he got invited as a speaker to motivate and explain students about the techniques that are being used in Orthodontics.


Seeking the dedication and determination from Dr. Ravindra Nanda, his daughter Seema Nanda never misses any chance to make him feel proud. Currently, she is appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Democratic National Committee. Having the qualities of her father, she turned out to be a good speaker like his father. As a respected Orthodontist, Dr. Nanda is also a proud father.

Avon Resident Named Keynote Speaker for Annual Orthodontic Conference in Boston - Dr. Ravindra Nanda

Dr. Ravindra Nanda of Avon, UConn Alumni Endowed Chair, professor, and chair of the Division of Orthodontics, has been chosen to be the keynote speaker at the 109th annual meeting of the American Association of Orthodontists in Boston May1-4. The yearly AAO conference is the largest orthodontic meeting, attracting more than 20,000 participants from all over the world.

During the John Valentine Mershon Memorial Lecture, Professor Ravindra Nanda will discuss the many changes that have taken place in the field of orthodontics over the past 40 years. The presentation will focus on biomechanics and how it is the critical element between current and future technological advancements. Dr. Ravindra Nanda will discuss how simple and efficient biomechanics-based appliances can significantly reduce treatment time by eliminating side effects.

Professor Ravindra Nanda has been at the University of Connecticut since 1972 and has done extensive research into a variety of topics. In recent years, his major interest has been to develop patient-friendly treatment devices to reduce overall orthodontic treatment time, clinical orthodontic trials and application of biomechanics in a busy orthodontic practice.

Research and Studies by Dr. Ravindra Nanda



Dr. Ravindra Nanda is the pioneer of Craniofacial Orthopedics. While he was studying, various organizations of Orthodontics and public health care sponsored him with Research Grant Support for the scientific research, which he was going to conduct in context to his field. He acted as the principal investigator in the research; much of his research is mentioned here.

Connecticut Research Foundation

The Connecticut Research Foundation is an Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation and its main agenda is to foster the advance scientific and educational research in the field of Orthodontics. In addition, it also promotes the clinical practice of orthodontics and the associated branches of dentistry and basic sciences.
This foundation provided Dr. Nanda with Research Grant Support, and there he was the Principal Investigator and conducted research on topics like The Study of Normal Vascular Pattern of Periodontium of Monkeys, Normal Palatal Closure, and Cellular Kinetics, Effect of Extraoral Forces on Craniofacial Growth, etc.

National Institutes of Health

National Institutes of Health is the chief organizer of the US government. It provides funding for biomedical research to non-NIH research amenities with its Extramural Research Program. It is responsible for public health and biomedical research. Dr. Nanda was also provided with the Research Grant for his research on Anterior Displacement of Maxilla by Controlled Forces, Symposium on Orthodontics and Bioengineering, Craniofacial Adaptations after Maxillary Osteotomy and more.

NIH/Individual Fellowship

NIH/Individual Fellowship offers institutional research training opportunities to the trainees that are undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral stage. Dr. Ravindra Nanda was pursuing his Ph.D. at the time he started his research on Orthodontic Extensive Stresses of the Periodontium in which he was the Principal Investigator.

Northeastern Society of Orthodontists

The Northeastern Society of Orthodontists (NESO) is a non-profit corporation that is acknowledged as a constituent of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO). Its mission is to encourage researchers while offering sponsorships to maintain the high standards of excellence in Orthodontics. Dr. Nanda was granted with sponsorship to conduct his research on various topics, such as The Stability of Incisor Intrusion, Stability, and Prediction of Soft Tissue Changes, Severity of Facial Deformity and Parents Adaptation to Primary Cleft Lip Repair.
